Plural nouns

In English, nouns are words that are used to identify people, places, or things. For example, the dog or the beach. But how do you make them plural?

In order to change a singular noun to its plural form in English, you usually add "s". For example, the plural of book is books. The plural of table is tables. These are regular plurals.

If the singular noun ends in ‑s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, or -z, add ‑es to the end to make it plural.

truss – trusses

bus – buses

marsh – marshes

lunch – lunches

tax – taxes

blitz – blitzes

If the singular noun ends in ‑o, add ‑es to make it plural.

Some nouns don’t change at all when they’re pluralized.

sheep – sheep

series – series

species – species

deer –deer
